Establish a Layout

Every kitchen needs to be arranged in a way that provides a smooth flow and transition from the refrigerator to the range to sink and to the dishwasher. For instance, arranging key appliances in a triangular pattern with the sink and dishwasher side-by-side helps to maximize efficiency. The first step in any kitchen design is the installation of the cabinetry. As the largest furnishings in the space, the finish of the cabinets and the hardware selected help to establish an overall design for the space. Keep things sleek and modern with long, linear cabinet pulls and a high-gloss finish or go with a more casual, industrial feeling by opting for oil-rubbed bronze hardware and more rustic cabinets.

Adding a Countertop and Tile Backsplash

An efficient kitchen needs a durable countertop and coordinating kitchen tile backsplash. Quartz and granite are just two of the popular countertop options. Glass, metal, and tile backsplashes are easy to wipe down and offer an opportunity to add a fun accent color to the kitchen design.

Select Appliances

Perhaps one of the most important selections for any kitchen is the  appliances. For a cohesive look, choose a refrigerator, range, hood, microwave, and dishwasher that are the same brand, collection, and finish. If some appliances are being replaced, try to stay in the same finish family when upgrading. Energy Star rated appliances use minimal energy, lowering the carbon footprint of the home as well as the monthly electric or gas bill.

Choose a Sink and Faucet

Installing the right kitchen sink can help make washing dishes seem less like a chore. There are many different sink style options, including: Drop-In Sinks, Undermount Sinks, Apron Front Sinks, Single-Bowl Sinks, Double-Bowl Sinks and Stainless Steel Sinks.

No sink would be complete without a faucet and drain set to complete the look.  Common types of kitchen faucets include: Pull-Down Faucets, Pull-Out Faucets, and Touch/Touchless Faucets

To add even more functionality to the space, consider adding a bar or prep sink to the island. A pot filler and hot and cold water dispenser are other convenient additions.

Add Accessories and Storage Solutions

Elevating any kitchen to a luxury status is all about the kitchen accessories and storage solutions. For example, cabinet organizers, pantry storage items, drawer dividers, and pull-out trash cans are designed to keep key items neatly organized and within easy reach.

Install Lighting

Under-cabinet tape lights, island lighting, recessed can lights, pendant lights, and chandeliers work together to illuminate the space. Consider the finish of the faucets and cabinet hardware when selecting the kitchen lighting. If there’s an eat-in dining area, choose fixtures that are dimmable and enjoy bright light for cooking and a softer look for dining.
