More Details about Toilets
Choose the Toilet that Works Best
The toilet is one of the most reliable fixtures in your bathroom. Or at least, it should be. If it’s time for a remodel, or starting a new bathroom, start with finding the right toilet. A broken toilet can cause thousands of dollars in damage to the floor and the walls. Thankfully, they are usually durable and most have a long life. Many toilets are backed by reliable warranties to guarantee you have a product that will last.
Before You Buy
Don’t forget to measure your rough-in, as this determines the size toilet and the type that will fit in your space. The toilet rough-in is the distance between the wall at the back of the toilet and the center of the waste outlet in the floor. The standard distance is 12″, but you may see 10″ or 14″ as well.
Toilet Type
When it comes to designing your bathroom, you aren’t locked into any particular fixture style. There are a variety of choices for the toilet, so it just depends on the features that meet your household requirements.
Bidet: The popular bidet toilet offers the health benefits of improved hygiene and cleanliness, and is a water- and cost-saving alternative to toilet paper.
Round: Round toilets are perfect for a smaller bathroom or powder room due to a more compact design.
Elongated: Elongated toilets are typically two inches longer than a round bowl and the best choice for standard to large sized bathrooms. Many adults prefer this style due to the extra comfort provided.
One-piece: A one-piece toilet provides a smooth, seamless look. They make routine cleaning easier, with no hard-to-reach cracks between pieces for liquid to become trapped.
Two-piece: Two-piece toilets are generally a cheaper option than one-piece toilets. The two distinct pieces allow for flexibility in repairs and a simplified installation process.
Wall Mounted: By hiding the water tank behind your wall, a wall mounted toilet allows increased bathroom space and a modern look. Toilet bowls are elevated off the floor at an adjustable height.
Other Features
Chair Height: A chair height toilet seat is 17″-19″ off the floor, compared to a typical 15″-17″. This creates a more comfortable bathroom experience for most adults and also meets ADA requirements.
Watersense Certified: The upgraded designs of WaterSense certified toilets flush at 1.28 GPF (Gallons Per Flush) instead of the standard 1.6 GPF, and don’t lose an ounce of the necessary flushing power. Conserving water with a WaterSense certified toilet can save up to 20% on the water bill!
Skirted Toilets: A concealed trapway creates a smooth look, from bowl to ground, and provides a flat surface to make cleaning easier.
